Nachdem es heute schon in Nordengland und Schottland zu Schneefällen mit entsprechenden chaotischen Auswirkungen (siehe BBC) gekommen ist, scheint in den nächsten rund 24 Stunden der Süden von intensiven Schneefällen betroffen zu sein. Warnstufe rot beim Britischen Wetterdienst. Kein Wunder bei diesen Prognosen!
Ich habe vorher gelesen, in Bolton nördlich von Manchester (wo ich übrigens Verwandte habe) hat jemand von "zwei Fuss" Schnee berichtet ! (Also ca.60cm). Ob das wirklich stimmt??

Snow has been falling this afternoon in many areas of the UK. Unofficial snow depths of 8cm have been reported at Braunton in Devon, 5cm at Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, 15cm at Radcliffe in Manchester, 11cm at Coopers Hill, Brockworth in Gloucestershire, 15cm at Tyldesley in Manchester and 15cm at Llandysul in Ceredigion, Wales. Danke Andreas für die Info. Offenbar hat dieser `jemand` ein bisschen übertrieben! Das sieht krass aus über Portsmouth/Chichester Gebiet Ich warte gespannt auf Berichte von meine Nichte dort..... Von Lake Effect in GB habe ich nie gehört. Allerdings im Winter bilden sich oft vermehrt Schauer über dem Ärmelkanal bei labiler Bedingungen. Ich erlebte das oft als ich noch an der Heimat wohnte .

Den 87er Fall hab ich übrigens live in Brighton miterlebt. War auf Besuch bei meiner Freundin und die Landlady setzte mich jeden Morgen Punkt 9 Uhr vor die Türe und ich verbrachte die Wintertage draussen im Schneechaos zwischen querstehenden roten Doppelstöckern und in unterkühlten Pubs. Very lovely!

Wow! Andreas du hast doch recht! Ja, wenn ich mich richtig erinnere war es im Januar 87 der grösste Schneefall, bis 30cm, den ich jemals auf Guernsey erlebte. Das war absolut Klasse !
Zurück zum heutigen Thema: meine beiden Nichte in Bognor Regis bzw. Portsmouth berichten momentan - wie man erwartet - von heftigen Schneefall.

The highest snowfall accumulations have been seen across parts of central southern England with 20 to 30cm quite widely reported.
