In 1990, Austrian Meteorological Institute granted the elaboration of the project of Central European Weather Radar Network (CERAD) by Institute of Communication and Wave Propagation, Technical University Graz, Austria . At first time CERAD included radars from Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland and Czechoslovakia. Germany, Swiss and Italy were invited to join CERAD network in next years.
Software for encoding and decoding of radar data in WMO code FM-94 BUFR was developed in Technical University Graz. This software is used Europeae-wide in the frame of GORN (Liaison Group for Operational References
