Unglaublich momentan spricht man von mind. 3 Tornados: Akrotiri, Limassol, Kiti, Pervolia, Larnaca. Allerdings könnte es meiner Meinung nach auch gut sein, dass es sich um nur ein bis zwei Tornados gehandelt hat, welche evtl. zwischenzeitlich als Funnel weiter existierten. Die Zeitabstände über die Tornadosichtungen in Limassol und Larnaca könnten ein Indiz dafür sein: 70km in gut 2 Stunden, das könnte hinhauen. Ausserdem bewegten sich die Luftmassen gemäss Radarbild in nordöstliche Richtung. Aber etwas verwundert mich denn doch etwas: Die Tornados sollen vom Meer gekommen sein, also eher oder zumindest für eine gewisse Zeit lang aus südöstlicher Richtung... Komische Zugbahn bei der allg. Luftmassenbewegung in nordöstliche Richtung... Was meint ihr?
Interessant sind diesbezüglich übrigens auch die Wetterdaten aus Akrotiri: Dort wurde um ca. 08 UTC ein Funnel bzw. eine Wasser-/Windhose gesichtet. Der Wind kam vorher aus ENE und drehte nach der Hose auf SSW bis West, machte also exakt 180° kehrt. Auch die Windgeschwindigkeiten zu diesem Zeitpunkt sind auffällig: von über 20 runter auf 6 mph, dann wieder rauf auf 20..

Limassol and Larnaca hit by tornadoes
Nicosia, Jan 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus was taken by surprise, as it was hit by three tornadoes here Monday in the southern coastal town of Limassol, injuring people and causing
extensive damage.
Another tornado hit the south-eastern area of Larnaca, damaging roofs and uprooting trees.
The Limassol town centre looked like a bomb hit it as trees were uprooted, cars were overturned and shops and houses suffered extensive damage. Cyprus
Telecommunications Authority and Electricity Authority lines were also affected.
Twenty-nine people were taken to the Limassol General Hospital with light injuries and seven were admitted for treatment.
The Lady’s Mile area, filled with restaurants, was greatly affected, while newly imported vehicles in the Limassol port area were badly damaged.
Police, the Fire Department, the town’s district administration and civil defence department remain on high alert.
Larnaca district also reported damage as the communities of Kiti and Pervolia were also hit by a damaging tornado.
Larnaca District Officer Kypros Matheou told CNA that the tornado damaged roofs and metal constructions and uprooted trees. No injuries were reported.
Meteorological Service Director Kyriacos Theofilou told CNA the cause of the tornadoes was the low-pressure system affecting the region.
He said the weather would continue to be cloudy with local rain, storms and hail. Weather conditions will improve as of Thursday, he added.
