Fliegende Fische

Hallo

Es ist zwar nicht der 1. April, trotzdem Fischerlatein und vielleicht sogar wahr... :O

All,

You may recall the recent article posted in the Daily Mail regarding the flying flounder - a fish that 'dropped out of the heavens' into some poor souls back garden in Portsmouth during the recent storm (27/10/02). The article laid responsibility on a bird catching the poor fish and dropping it on its travels. I responded to the reporter pointing out that convection in the form of severe weather could not be ruled out.

An amazing article has been published again in the Daily Mail today expanding on this story. Here goes.... Apparently, upon finding this fish in his garden the owner placed the fish in his fridge overnight in readyness for a fish supper the following evening. The next day he retrieved the fish from his fridge and began washing it in preparation for the frying pan. However, as he plunged the fish into the sink, to his amazement the fish began to move.....it was still alive!!! Not only had the fish survived the shock of either being lifted to the heavens by bird or convection and then plunged back down to earth again but also being half frozen in fridge overnight. Consequently, the fish was taken to a rescue centre and apparently has made a full recovery!! Amazing!!!

Now then, this story does have some meteorological twist. If the fish was alive when it was found (albeit playing dead)then it must have been taken from the water alive. This is quite a large fish and to expect a gull (as the paper suggests) to pick up the fish and carry it a fair distance in its beak is some mean feat in itself but to have plucked the fish from the water whilst ALIVE I find hard to believe. Do we have more evidence here to suggest this WAS a severe weather event?

Any ornithlogists or fishermen out there wishing to challenge my theory?

Regards

Zumindest unterhaltsam ist es :-O
